CCAR© Recovery Coaching in the Emergency Department

CCAR© Recovery Coaching in the Emergency Department prepares participants for the challenging and rewarding role of a Recovery Coach in the Emergency Department.

Participants of Emergency Department training will:

  • Describe the roles and functions of the Recovery Coach working in the Emergency Department.
  • Understand and practice staying in your lane.
  • Develop skills to advocate and educate staff, patients, etc. as a way to demonstrate accountability within the role.
  • Use of Motivational Interviewing (MI) to bring people through the Stages of Change into Recovery.
  • Further develop your art of Recovery Coaching

CCAR Ethical considerations and professionalism for recovery coaches

CCAR Ethical considerations and professionalism for recovery coaches prepares participants with new skills and understandings so that they may utilize their coaching skills in an array of professionally diverse settings and environments.

Participants in Professionalism training will:

  • Define professionalism as it pertains to recovery coaching.
  • Learn about and develop the various characteristics that a professional possesses.
  • Understand their personal accountabilities in their role as recovery coaches.
  • Learn the importance of the concept “stay in their lane” when it comes to working in a large system, like a hospital, court and/or treatment system.
  • Reexamine the roles of a recovery coach in order to maintain good boundaries when working in professional settings.
  • Have opportunities to practice and demonstrate newly acquired skills.

Peer Recovery Coach Academy

As a result of this training, a coach will be able to describe the role and function of a recovery coach; list the components, core values, and guiding principles of recovery; 

  • Use active listening skills, and motivational interviewing as a coaching component; 
  • Understand the intersection of stages of recovery with the stages of change;
  • Acknowledge the power and effectiveness of personal recovery stories to move the recoveree along in his or her recovery wellness planning; and understand various ethical and boundary issues inherent in the coach-recoveree relationship
